Gundogs shine at sun-drenched Scottish Game Fair

he Scottish Game Fair 2011 was held on 1-3 July in the grounds of Scone Palace and good weather on all three days was enjoyed by increased numbers attending the Fair writes Gundog events organizer Johnny Clavering.

The Gundog Working Tests held on an Island in the River Tay, and sponsored by Savills, attracted a large number of spectators who had a good view from the riverbank. The Scurry as always was very popular and the excellent prizes donated by Countrywear attracted full entries on all three days.

There were also good entries for the Junior Handlers Test which this year had two classes: up to 8 years and 9- 16 years of age. The prizes for the winners of the Open Spaniel and Retriever Tests were portraits of the winning dogs donated by the artists Judith Stowell and Heather Cary. There was also an additional trophy this year for the dog with the Most Stylish Hunting in the Open Spaniel Test, presented by Johnny Clavering who is retiring this year as the Gundogs events organiser, which was awarded to Eddie Scott with ESSB FTCh Broomfield Rosetta. Johnny’s successor is Hamish MacDonald Lockhart.
